Born Laurence George McElwain in Renton Washington August 19, 1957, Larry Mac started singing at a young age. He was primarily raised in Spokane Washington and his passion for singing and writing was born there. He sang in the church choir, middle school choir and multiple high school choirs. Larry wrote first song his senior year in high school and performed his first professional gig at the age of 18 at dinner club in Spokane. At the age of 19, in the summer of 1977, Larry traveled to Littleton Colorado for a vacation to visit relatives, but he stayed and, at least for the next several years, he made Colorado his home.
Larry drew his inspirations from his early life experiences which molded Larry into the person he is today. At the age of 22, Larry recorded a demo tape of his early catalog of music. Larry continued to play write but life “got in the way” of his early musical ambition. Although Larry continued to sing for friends and family, he put his musical ambitions up on the shelf for another day.
Larry spent the next 40 plus years working in steel building construction, gas and oil exploration, the corporate environment of warehousing/logistics, single-family home building and multifamily housing construction. So now, fast forward to October 2020 when Larry met Tony Piscitello and his life changed again.
Over dinner one evening, Tony heard his original musical material and asked if he could share with a friend in the music industry. Larry agreed. The friend was Gary Seiler who then in turn introduced Larry to his own producer and musician extraordinaire, Jim Soldi. So, in March of 2021 Larry found himself in the recording studio working with producer Jim Soldi and, through-out the Spring and Summer of 2021, Larry’s first album “Off The Shelf” was recorded.
Larry is married to the lovely Patricia McElwain and together they have raised four terrific boys…Ryan, Craig, Sean and Devon. Larry has a beautiful daughter-in-law Kelli, along with two adorable grandchildren, Emma and Kamden. Larry currently lives in Northern California but travels extensively throughout the Western States for both work and pleasure.
